What is the difference between CNC milling machines and machining centers?

CNC milling machines are an automatic processing equipment developed on the basis of general milling machines. The processing technology of the two is basically the same, and the structure is somewhat similar.CNC milling machines can be devided into two categories: without tool magazine and with tool magazine. Among them, CNC milling machines with tool magazines are also called machining centers.

Its features are as follows:

1. The machining center is a highly automated multifunctional CNC machine with a tool magazine and an automatic tool changing device. After the workpiece is clamped once on the machining center, it can complete multiple processes on more than two surfaces, and there are multiple tool changing or tool selection functions, which greatly improves production efficiency.

2. The structure of the machining center is that the Z-axis is the tool spindle rotation, the workpiece moves in a plane, and milling is performed from top to bottom. For small or large-scale production, the machining center can perform economical processing. Its advantages are that the circular milling cutter is economical in cost, the metal cutting rate is high, and multi-blade cutting can be performed in a very short time.

3. The main technical projects of the machining center include plane milling, curved surface milling, groove milling, gear milling, and cam milling, etc., and the forming milling cutter can be used to complete the milling of complex contours in one time. It is an indispensable machine for mechanical production, mold production or tool production operations.

4. In addition, CNC milling machines only have three axes, while machining centers can be four-axis or five-axis linkage, which is more widely used than CNC milling machines.
